Gootyland is a small ethical breeding program for the Gooty sapphire ornamental tarantula — built on low-stress husbandry, and working toward getting medicinal venom into the hands of researchers without harming the animals that make it.
Gootyland is a home breeding program, not a warehouse operation. The focus is quality of care over volume — which at times has meant deliberately holding numbers back rather than pushing them up.
The collection has produced up to roughly 1,000 slings in a single year. Today it's smaller and more deliberate: mostly older adult females, alongside a newer generation of juveniles around 15–18 months old, as numbers are rebuilt with care.
Known for their striking metallic blue coloring, P. metallica are old-world arboreal tarantulas that demand a calm, patient keeper. Every animal here is raised with that in mind — and every sale or trade comes with real husbandry guidance, not just an invoice.

Tarantula venom contains compounds of real interest to researchers developing natural medicines. Right now, there isn't a good way to collect it without stressing or harming the animal — so that's the actual project: inventing a genuinely low-stress collection method, from the ground up.
The goal isn't to breed more tarantulas. It's to build the thing that doesn't exist yet — a way to get venom to the people who need it without the animal ever paying the price for it.
